"You live in bush. Do you live on a farm? I swear there's no black people there?"

These are the usual reactions I receive when I reveal where I'm from. I never understood why until I realised that the narrative of Black British life was London orientated. Lack of reference to certain parts of the UK has made it difficult for the voices of black folk in suburban and rural areas to be seen or heard.

Country Bumpkins is a cultural journal centred around the African Caribbean diaspora living across Britain. This journal is made up of photos, film, documentary, interviews, archives and written pieces.

The aim of Country Bumpkins is to not only document the life and start conversations, but to ensure that history isn't lost in the future.
